NEW DELHI: An ugly on-field confrontation between Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina towards the closing stages of the tri-series match against West Indies on Friday marred India's splendid 102-run win.
According to a TV channel, the genesis of the argument - which very nearly descended into a physical altercation - lay in two dropped catches off Jadeja's bowling even as the Windies' ninth-wicket pair of Sunil Narine and Kemar Roach was putting up a dogged fight. Both Raina and Jadeja, incidentally, play for the same IPL team - Chennai Super Kings.
Raina was involved in both dropped catches. The first one was in the 25th over at slip as the ball ricocheted off Roach's bat and Dinesh Karthik's gloves and went past Raina, who appeared to be celebrating, thinking the ball had already been caught by the keeper.
The second instance was when an already-incensed Jadeja appeared to lose his cool. In the 32nd over, both Raina and Bhuvneshwar Kumar called for the catch as Narine played a lifted shot towards long on, but a miscommunication resulted in the catch being floored. Narine followed that with a six to add insult to injury.
Jadeja didn't say a word then but after he had bagged Narine's wicket off the fifth ball of the 34th over - the last of the innings - things turned ugly. During the break, Jadeja confronted Raina and the two were seen arguing till they were separated by skipper Virat Kohli. Raina appeared to be explaining the situation to Jadeja, who appeared in no mood to hear him out.
That wasn't the end of it, though. After Jadeja dismissed Roach off the very next ball to bring about India's win, there was another heated exchange as Jadeja vented his anger and teammates looked on helplessly.
Apparently provoked by a verbal volley from Raina, the two argued till Jadeja walked away from Raina, who then grabbed him by the neck - in an almost threatening fashion - and gave him a piece of his mind.
Eventually the two Chennai Super Kings players walked off the field together in a conciliatory gesture but the disciplinary breach had already soured an otherwise excellent performance from the team.

ALSO ON TOI
Now
that 'Sir' Jadeja has learned to play Cricket, he must learn to behave
like a sportsman. He should know that he is not indispensable yet for
Indian cricket. He has been lucky to got suitable wickets even in Eng
and WI. He hasn't learned the 'tip of iceberg' yet. So instead of
showing aggression, as if he would have won the match single-handedly,
he should concentrate on improving his skill on other kind of pitches as
well.
Such
indecent behaviour from the two are not welcome in the "gentleman's
game". The BCCI need to make sure that such confrontations don't catch
the public eye by defining strict rules of conduct during matches. Any
matter should be discussed by calling a meeting or so after the match is
over. Doing so will both, solve the problem(s) that the players are
facing, and also keep the dignity of the game alive !
jadeja
is frm the community where people are low mind skills and good at fight
they are jadejas but we patel have hold them back in every case. see
jadeja low in education makes him useless they njoy killings stupid
bapus.
Not
surprizing when the team is led by Virat Kohli who himself was seen to
indulge in an ugly spat with his senior Dehli and India team mate Gautam
Gambhir.
"Sir"
Jadeja U must know Suresh Raina is the best fielder in Indian Team and
he will never miss chance unless there is misunderstanding.Further
Jadeja is still "Bachha" in front of him. He must Respect seniors and
keep some decorum on and off the field.BCCI must take note of this bad
incidence and see that it will never happen again.
So who is the winner of "Dhoni's favorite chamcha" contest?
Give
warning to everyone that no one have the fix room in the team. Every
game perform will decide ur selection in next match. Then see what
happen... dont blame on media they told as everyone saw on the ground.
If we think media puts hard so no one should behave like this. Its a
gentlmen game and media took them on the head also as we saw before
Jadeja
is on the top at the moment because of his recently consequent success.
He learns to hold his emotions and nerve and learns to hold his success
as well. This is the moment most of the success men lose their
patience, cool and potential to lose all. "sir" Jadeja focus on his game
and plays with his potential and be cool, calm to maintain the success
mantra.
There
may be a movie based on title "Sir" on the success mantra of "Sir"
Jadeja. Jadeja presence in the team there happens miracle all the time. A
tough situation against India favors India when there is the presence
of "Sir" Jadeja. There may be more fun on Dhoni Birthday on weekend.
Wait for more stories, fun, entertainment and jokes on the eve of
skipper birthday celebration.
indian
media did it again...!o! well its a game and these things happened so
its the media pushing it hard and by the way raina did hold him from
neck but not in a threaten way its a way of holding thats it. even we
people do it to our friends. :) cheers
Representing
your country is the highest honor for any sportsperson. One should take
this opportunity with dignity and pride and not childish behavior as
shown by Jadeja. Raina by no means dropped those catches without putting
any efforts. He is by far one of India's best fielders and he surely
put in all efforts in those attempts. Maybe its time for some man
management skills and manners to be taught to Jadeja. He can look no
further and take a leaf out of captain cool Dhoni's book to learn a
thing or too. Wonder what he must have had to say to the boys after the
end of the game.
Raina
might have dropped catches of Jadeja's bowling. I am sure it was not an
intended one. Why, Jadeja, now playing international cricket should
lose temper for trivial matters as any fielder could drop catches.
The team manager should report this issue to BCCI and BCCI should pass a
stricture on Jadeja for this on field behaviour.
